To Share in Common

The word “communicate” can be viewed as coming from Latin words, which can be translated “to share in common.”


Communico: to share, to give a share; to impart, inform; to take counsel with, confer with; to join, unite; to participate in

Communio: to fortify thoroughly on all sides

Communio: sharing, mutual participation

Communis: shared, common, general, universal, public; with regard to people: approachable, not pretentious, affable

Communiter: in common with others, jointly, generally

Communitas: community, fellowship
